Choosing your gear
How do I choose a badminton racket? What do weight and grip mean?
Rackets are labelled by weight class and grip size. Weight codes run from heavier 2U to lighter 6U: heavier frames give more power for strong attackers, while lighter frames are quicker and easier for control and fast defence. Grip sizes such as G4 and G6 describe the handle circumference — pick the size that feels secure without straining your hand, and add an overgrip if you want more thickness or sweat absorption. On each product page you choose the exact weight and grip variant before adding to cart. The racket guide on our home page also explains power, control, speed, and all-round styles.
What is the difference between racket strings and string tension?
The strings are the part of the racket that hits the shuttle, and they wear out over time — restringing a worn frame restores its feel. Tension is how tight the strings are pulled, measured in pounds (lbs). Lower tension (around the lower end of the 22–30 lbs range we list) bounces the shuttle more easily and is forgiving for developing players; higher tension gives advanced players more control and feel but demands better technique and breaks strings more easily if you mis-hit. Choose the tension shown on the product variant when ordering.
Feather or nylon shuttlecocks — which should I buy?
Feather shuttlecocks (goose or duck feather) fly with a more natural trajectory and are used in competitive and higher-level play, but they break faster. Nylon (synthetic) shuttlecocks are more durable and are the everyday choice for practice, clubs, and recreational play. Both types are available in our Shuttlecocks category, with speed/grade options listed on each product.
How do I choose badminton shoes, grips, socks, and a bag?
Shoes: court shoes are designed for lateral movement and grip on indoor floors — choose your normal athletic shoe size from the UK size options on the product page. Grips: replacement grips and overgrips rebuild or thicken a worn handle and absorb sweat. Socks: padded sport socks reduce blistering during long sessions. Bags: pick a racket bag or kit bag sized for how many rackets and shoes you carry. Browse the relevant category in the menu to see what is currently in stock.
Why are there different variants of the same product? Are the images accurate?
Many products come in variants — for example racket weight (3U–5U), grip size (G4–G6), string tension (22–30 lbs), shuttlecock type and speed, or shoe size. Each variant has its own price and live stock count; the page shows "In Stock (N available)" or "Out of stock" for the variant you select. Images show the product model; colours and details can appear slightly different depending on your screen. If a product you want is out of stock, check back later — stock is updated as inventory arrives.
